Grays and Torreys via Kelso Ridge

@lizzyisoutside tackled Grays and Torreys via Kelso Ridge with @shawnheyland & @blainedavis:

Fellow Neptunian's Blaine, Shawn, and I linked the classic 14ers of Grays and Torreys. To avoid the crowds and potential afternoon thunderstorms we camped the night before at the trailhead and climbed up via Kelso Ridge, a more challenging class 3 route up Torreys.

Despite rain overnight we were greeted with a gorgeous sunrise of wispy non-threatening clouds and a relatively dry trail. The scramble up was a fun romp along the ridgeline, made all the more fun with reliable footwear for the job. I wore the Dynafit Alpine trail runners while Blaine rocked the La Sportiva Nucleo Highs (which kept his feet a bit drier then mine when we had to cross a stream). My favorite piece of gear for the climb was my Blue Ice Warthog pack—the frame remained comfortable while still allowing me good freedom of movement, so I could carry MANY snacks.
Although the standard route up Grays and Torreys is usually safe from rockfall, Kelso provided a few more risks making Shawn's lightweight but protective Meteor Helmet from Petzl an incredibly important addition to his kit. After a beautiful summit and getting to see great views comfortably and with less risk, we headed back down spotting an adorable baby mountain goat and spending more time to slow for snacks and laughs.⛰️🌞
